Brisbane has recorded the biggest quarterly fall in median house prices for more than a decade as the national property downturn hits the sunshine state.

While regional Queensland continued to post steady gains, Brisbane bore the brunt of an exodus by investors with prices slumping 3 per cent over the March quarter. Other signs of a growing downturn include a slump in private sector housing approvals and slowing renovation The latest property price survey released by the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) reveals a picture similar to that seen in the December quarter but with a more pronounced slowdown in the state's southeast – both in price growth and the number of sales.
